⁍ Britain, France and Germany say U.N. sanctions relief for Iran will continue beyond Sept. 20.
⁍ The United States asserts that all the measures should be reimposed.
⁍ Diplomats say few countries are likely to reimpose the measures.
– Britain, France, and Germany sent a letter to the UN Security Council on Friday saying that any decision by the US to reimpose sanctions on Iran “would be incapable of legal effect,” Reuters reports. The US announced last month that it was reimposing sanctions that were lifted as part of a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the West. The US claims it can do so because it is no longer a party to the deal. But 13 of the 15 Security Council members say the US move is void because it is no longer a party to the nuclear deal.
