⁍ Britain postpones plans to allow the return of limited crowds from October.

⁍ Football economy is unsustainable without fans, says Premier League.

⁍ partial reopening would have given sports a funding boost after months of empty stadiums.

– Stadiums in Britain have been closed since the first case of H1N1 was detected in early May, but they’ll have to stay that way for at least another month. The government has postponed plans to allow up to 33% of crowds to return to stadiums as part of an effort to contain the virus, Reuters reports. “We have to acknowledge that the spread of the virus is now affecting our ability to reopen business conferences, exhibitions, and large sporting events,” said Prime Minister Boris Johnson. “So we will not be able to do this from the first of October.” Britain’s Premier League soccer league says it’s disappointed by the postponement, but believes stadiums could be as safe as other public venues. “Football is not the same without attending fans, and the football economy is unsustainable without them,” it said in a statement. “We will continue to work with government to bring supporters safely back into grounds as soon as possible.”
