– With New York City facing a $21 million budget shortfall due to the H1N1 virus, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced today that the city will be furloughing 9,000 city workers for five days in October and March, Reuters reports. “It’s a difficult one because it will affect real people and their lives, it will affect their families,” he said. “It’s also very important that we do this in a way that protects the health and the well-being of New Yorkers.”
