– New York’s attorney general on Thursday filed a lawsuit accusing Becton Dickinson and Co’s CR Bard unit of concealing the risks of surgical mesh devices, Reuters reports. A consent judgment is expected in the case, according to records of the New York state court in Manhattan where the complaint by state Attorney General Letitia James was filed. Neither Becton Dickinson nor the attorney general’s office immediately responded to requests for comment. According to the complaint, surgical mesh is a medical device containing synthetic, multi-strand, knitted, or woven mesh to be implanted in the pelvic floor to treat stress urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. New York said CR Bard misrepresented or failed to disclose risks associated with the devices, including chronic pain, vaginal scarring, vaginal shortening, infection, and inflammation.
