⁍ COVID-19 contact-tracing app launched in June to much fanfare from government.
⁍ Three months later only 2.4 million people out of 67 million population have downloaded it.
⁍ Castex forced to isolate earlier this month after being in contact with someone who had been tested positive for virus.
⁍ When asked whether his attitude was, do as I say not as I do, Castex insisted he was not handing out lessons.
– France is in the midst of a severe coronavirus outbreak, and the country’s prime minister says he’s not among the many people who’ve downloaded the government’s contact-tracing app, Reuters reports. “I push the French to do it, but I haven’t done it, I’ll be honest with you,” Jean Castex said Thursday. “Look at my role! Sadly, carrying out my functions, it means I don’t take the metro. STOP-COVID is only interesting when you go on the metro or meet people. I see less people.” The app, called COVID-19, was supposed to help people trace people who’ve come in contact with people who’ve tested positive for the virus. But as of Sept. 15, only 2.4 million people had downloaded the app, according to health authorities. And while Castex says he’s not handing out lessons, he’s certainly not doing his job well. “Look at my role! Sadly, carrying out my functions, it means I don’t take the metro,” he said. “Stop-COVID is only interesting when you go on the metro or meet people.” Castex was on television Thursday to reassure citizens after the government faced growing criticism from local politicians following the announcement of extra restrictive measures, mainly in big cities, to contain the disease.
