⁍ President Donald Trump on Saturday nominated Amy Barrett to the Supreme Court.

⁍ If confirmed by the Senate to replace liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Barrett would become the fifth woman ever to serve on the court.

⁍ Barrett is the youngest Supreme Court nominee since conservative Clarence Thomas was 43 in 1991.

– President Trump nominated Amy Barrett on Saturday to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court left by the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Reuters reports. Barrett, 48, is the youngest nominee since Clarence Thomas was 43 in 1991. She is currently a judge on the Chicago-based 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals. “His judicial philosophy is mine too: a judge must apply the law as written,” said Barrett, who clerked for the late Antonin Scalia. “Judges are not policymakers.” If Barrett is confirmed, she would replace the late Ginsburg, who died Sept. 18 at the age of 87. Democrats are calling on the Senate to wait until after the November election to consider Barrett. “The Senate should not act on this vacancy until after the American people select their next president and the next Congress,” said Joe Biden.
