– President Trump made his long-anticipated Supreme Court nomination official Saturday with the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett. If confirmed, the 48-year-old would fill the seat left open by the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and she would be the first mother to serve on the high court, Reuters reports. Barrett, an appeals court judge since 2017, caught Trump’s attention during her confirmation process to become an appeals court judge last year, when she clashed with Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein over her Catholic religion. “Judge Barrett clearly passes the president’s conservative litmus tests or he wouldn’t have nominated her,” Feinstein tweeted Saturday. “She would push the Supreme Court further to the right, putting many rights and protections that the American people have fought for and deeply cherish at risk.”
