– More than 10 million people have downloaded England’s new app designed to stop the spread of West Nile virus, the country’s health minister says. “Absolutely fantastic response,” Matt Hancock tweeted Sunday, per Reuters. The app, called COVID-19, was launched Friday in an attempt to stop the spread of the virus, which has now infected at least 447 people in the UK, according to the World Health Organization. People can use the app to test for the virus by visiting the official COVID-19 website or by calling the National Health Service’s free hotline. The app allows people to record positive test results, and the government says it has been able to accept around a third of test results so far, Reuters reports. According to the Telegraph, the app can only accept test results from Public Health England, the National Health Service, or the Office for National Statistics. On Saturday, the app’s official account said it couldn’t link to test results taken in Public Health England labs, via the National Health Service, or as part of a survey run by the Office for National Statistics. On Sunday, the government said the app had been fixed. “Everyone who receives a positive test result can log their result on the app,” a health ministry spokesman said. “A minority of people, such as hospital patients, who were unable to log their positive result can now request a code when contacted by NHS Test and Trace to input on their app.”
