⁍ Amy Barrett is President Donald Trump’s third conservative appointee to the Supreme Court.

⁍ She would replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion of gender equality and other liberal causes.

⁍ Democrats are fiercely opposing Barrett, who would replace Ginsburg.

⁍ They argue the vacancy should be filled after the next president is chosen on Nov. 3.

– The confirmation process for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee kicks off Tuesday with a visit to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Reuters reports. Amy Barrett, President Trump’s pick to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, will also meet with senators including Republican Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham. Senate confirmation hearings for Barrett, a 48-year-old federal appeals court judge from Chicago, are set to begin Oct. 12. Democrats are opposed to Barrett, who would fill Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court, saying the vacancy should be filled after the next president is elected on Nov. 3. Graham has said his committee will likely vote on the nomination on Oct. 22, setting up a final vote on the Senate floor by the end of the month.
