– A Democratic candidate for the US Senate in North Carolina has apologized after text messages surfaced showing him discussing kissing a woman who isn’t his wife. “I have hurt my family, disappointed my friends, and am deeply sorry,” former state Sen. Cal Cunningham said in a statement, per Reuters. The apology comes after the conservative news site NationalFile.com posted screenshots of text messages between Cunningham and the woman, who isn’t his wife. In one exchange, Cunningham asks the woman if she’ll be willing to meet him for a “furtive meeting,” the News & Observer reports. In another exchange, he asks her if she’ll be willing to have sex with him. Cunningham, who is running against Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, is a former state senator.
