Trump was wearing a mask as he drove a black SUV with two people in the front seat. A White House spokesman says “appropriate precautions were taken” to protect the president and his supporters, but critics say the move put others at risk. “Every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary Presidential ‘drive-by’ just now has to be quarantined for 14 days,” James Phillips, an assistant professor of emergency medicine at George Washington University, tweeted. “They might get sick. They may die. For political theater. They understood the risk inherent in the job, but they shouldn’t have to contemplate that the risk is coming from the protectee.” The White House Correspondents Association says it is “outrageous” that Trump left the hospital without a press pool present. “The American public deserves independent coverage of the president so they can be reliably informed about his health,” the group says.
