⁍ Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said he is worried that Hurricane Delta, which is gathering strength, may drift west to hit areas heavily damaged by Hurricane Laura in late August.

⁍ Laura was the first category 4 hurricane – packing winds of at least 130 miles per hour (209 kmh)
Edwards warned residents across the state to prepare for severe weather.

– “If this hurricane comes into southwest Louisiana on a track that is similar to Laura it will be very devastating,” Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said Wednesday, referring to Hurricane Delta, the first Category 4 hurricane to make landfall in the state since Hurricane Laura in late August. The National Hurricane Center says Delta, currently about 300 miles west-southwest of the Louisiana-Texas border, is expected to become a hurricane Wednesday night and could hit the Gulf Coast as a Category 3 or 4 storm by Thursday, Reuters reports. Edwards says he has asked the White House for a pre-landfall disaster declaration, which allows federal agencies to help with recovery efforts.
