⁍ Public elementary schools in New York City welcomed back students to the classroom as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s blended learning plan after a months-long hiatus.
⁍ But this week New York officials began imposing fresh restrictions to curb a worrying rise in coronavirus infections in several ‘hot spots’
Schools in those zones have been ordered shut as part of new rules imposed by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to try to stamp out the virus in several parts of the state.
– New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he’s “disgusted” by what he calls “disgusting behavior” after a journalist working for Jewish Insider was attacked by protesters in a Brooklyn park. Jacob Kornbluh, a reporter for the site, was covering protests against the closure of some schools in the area when he was attacked, the New York Daily News reports. “There’s no excuse for violence, especially against a reporter,” Cuomo said. “It was disgusting behavior, frankly.” The World Jewish Congress called the attack on Kornbluh, who is Jewish, “deplorable” and said “there’s no excuse for violence, especially against a reporter.” The World Jewish Congress and other Jewish community leaders support Cuomo’s efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus, which has killed one person in the state and sickened dozens more, Reuters reports.
