⁍ President Donald Trump is itching to get back on the campaign trail after being sidelined by a COVID-19 infection.

⁍ Questions remain about whether Trump, who announced on Oct. 2 he had the virus and spent three nights in a military hospital, is still contagious.

⁍ The illness has kept the Republican president away from holding public rallies and attending fundraisers at a critical juncture of the campaign.

– President Trump says he’ll be back on the campaign trail as soon as he’s cleared by his doctor. “He wants to talk to the American people, and he wants to be out there,” White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany told Fox News on Friday, per Reuters. Trump, who has been out of the public eye since being diagnosed with the coronavirus on Oct. 2, told Rush Limbaugh on Friday that he’ll be tested for the virus on Friday. “There are medical tests underway that will ensure that when the president is back out he will not be able to transmit the virus,” McEnany said. “He won’t be out there if he can transmit the virus.” Trump said on Thursday that he hoped to hold campaign rallies in Florida and Pennsylvania on Saturday and Sunday, but that the short notice would make the events difficult to stage. The White House has declined to say when Trump last tested negative for the virus. Trump was scheduled to do an on-camera interview with Fox News on Friday night, his first since being diagnosed. Fittingly given he is a former reality television star, Fox said in a press release that Dr. Marc Siegel “will conduct a medical evaluation and interview during the program.” Biden has continued to campaign during Trump’s illness. The former vice president, who has sharply criticized Trump’s handling of the pandemic, is leading in national polls, but the advantage is more narrow in some of the swing states that may determine the election outcome.
