– The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases says a new Trump campaign ad is “unfortunate and really disappointing.” The ad shows Dr. Anthony Fauci praising Trump’s response to the new coronavirus, which has killed more than 214,000 people and sickened more than 7.7 million, Reuters reports. In a March interview, Fauci, who has been the institute’s director since 1984, said he was “pleased with the president’s leadership” in the fight against the virus. The Trump campaign says the words from Fauci “are accurate, and directly from Dr. Fauci’s mouth.” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh defended the ad on Sunday, saying the words from Fauci “are accurate, and directly from Dr. Fauci’s mouth.” On Monday, Fauci told CNN that he thinks the ad should be pulled.
