– If the concept of “quantum key distribution” sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the name of a new cybersecurity technology being developed by Toshiba. QKD, or “quantum key distribution,” uses the principle of quantum physics to provide two parties with cryptographic keys that are immune to cyberattacks, reports Reuters. The company says it expects the global QKD market to grow to $12 billion in the next decade, and it plans to generate $3 billion in revenue from the technology by 2030, reports the Wall Street Journal. The Japanese company says it has teamed up with Verizon in the US and BT in Britain in pilot QKD projects, and it’s in talks with another telecommunications carrier in South Korea.
