– Nancy Pelosi says she’s “optimistic” that the House will pass legislation to help victims of the deadly coronavirus before the election. “I’m optimistic because, again, we’ve been back and forth on all of this,” the top elected Democrat tells ABC’s This Week, per Reuters. She says she wants a bill passed before the Nov. 3 election to give President Trump and Democrat Joe Biden a final bill before the election. Pelosi says the White House has offered a $1.8 trillion stimulus package, but it falls short in several areas, including tax credits for poor people, aid to state and local governments, worker protections, and rent help, the Los Angeles Times reports. “It has become clear that these changes are not a light touch but instead, a deep dive,” Pelosi said in a letter to lawmakers on Sunday. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin is currently in the Middle East negotiating a deal.
