– Jacinda Ardern became only the second world leader ever to give birth while in office when she gave birth to daughter Neve Te Aroha in June. Now the New Zealand prime minister is taking a break from politics to be with her baby—and her family. “I’m going to be on paternity leave for as long as it takes me to be with Neve and as long as I can be with Clarke [Gayford, her partner of seven years], which will be as long as it takes me to be with Neve,” she tells Stuff.co.nz. The 37-year-old is believed to be the first sitting prime minister to take a leave of absence since Pakistan’s Benazir Bhutto gave birth to a child in 1990. Ardern’s office says she’ll be on paternity leave until at least mid-October.
