– The Canadian province of Alberta has come up with a novel way to help struggling oil and gas companies, Reuters reports. The government says it will give them a three-year break on municipal property taxes for land where they’re drilling wells or building pipelines. It will also lower property tax assessments on wells that are less productive and eliminate a provincial tax on drilling, the government says. The move is designed to help the companies compete and keep municipalities viable, says the president of rural municipalities of Alberta.
