– Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is up for re-election next month, and the country is getting ready to vote for its next parliament. Under a new law, 50% of the 568 contested seats will be allocated to pre-selected lists, and Sisi can appoint up to 28 legislators directly, reports Reuters. The rest of the seats will be allocated to individual candidates, and the favorite is Mostaqbal Watn (Nation’s Future), which in August won nearly three-quarters of the contested seats in an election for Egypt’s Senate, an advisory body.
