– The head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is a trusted name in the medical community, but the White House is apparently not so sure. NBC News reports the White House has compiled a list of statements made by Dr. Anthony Fauci that have been “wrong” or “incorrect.” The list was given to the Washington Post, and it includes statements from Fauci early in the outbreak of coronavirus, which has killed 19 people and sickened more than 100 in the US. For example, Fauci said the disease was “not a major threat,” when other experts said it was “not driven by asymptomatic carriers.” He also said people “should not be walking around with masks,” when there was a shortage of such equipment. Former Joe Biden chief of staff Ron Klain says the White House is trying to “smear” Fauci. “From a WH that has done many despicable things, smearing Tony Fauci is one of the worst,” he tweeted. “He has served six presidents and saved countless lives. If a President could have just ONE advisor to help him navigate a health crisis, Tony would be my pick.”
