– Madeline Swegle has made history as the US Navy’s first black female tactical aircraft pilot. She’s also the first woman of color to pilot an F/A-18 Super Hornet, the Navy’s first all-black fighter jet unit, CNN reports. Swegle, who’s been in the Navy for three years and served two tours in Iraq with the Navy’s 1st Marines Division out of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, says she’s “thrilled and honored” to become the first woman of color to pilot an F/A-18. “It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve my country in the United States Navy,” she says.
