– The heir to the Red Bull energy drink empire has been cleared of charges stemming from a fatal hit-and-run in Bangkok in 2012. Vorayuth Yoovidhya, the 28-year-old grandson of Red Bull founder Chaleo Yoovidhya, had been charged with drunk driving, negligent death, and committing a hit-and-run after the black Ferrari he was driving struck and killed Sgt. Major Wichien Klanprasert on Sept. 3, 2012. He was released on a bond of about $16,000 at the time, CNN reports. According to police, Yoovidhya, who has a fortune estimated at $13.1 billion, told investigators he was driving the Ferrari at the time of the crash but was “stunned” when Klanprasert’s motorcycle suddenly turned left in front of him. He said he was “cut off” by the officer, who was on his way to respond to a robbery call, CNN reports. Police say they found oil leaking from the crash scene and searched Yoovidhya’s home, where they found a wrecked Ferrari with its air bags deployed. According to police, Yoovidhya allegedly paid the victim’s family around $97,000 in a bid to stall a civil lawsuit.
