– The days of visiting a dealership to test-drive a car may be over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still get a great deal on a new vehicle—if you’re willing to take the leap into the digital age. That’s the message from CarMax, the nation’s largest used-car chain, which is rolling out its “omnichannel experience” to all its dealers this summer, allowing customers to buy a car the way they want, even if they don’t live in a specific area, Business Insider reports. “We recognize the current environment has accelerated a shift in consumer buying behavior,” says CarMax CEO Bill Nash. ” Customers are seeking safety, personalization, and convenience more than ever in how they shop for and buy a car.” Indeed, a recent survey of new-vehicle buyers by Cox Automotive found that 58% of those who bought a car entirely online found the experience to be “much” or “somewhat” better than the traditional buying process, and only 6% said it was “worse.” CarMax’s “omnichannel experience” is just one example of the changes being made in the auto industry to better compete with Amazon, which now sells nearly half of all new cars sold in the US,
