⁍ Trump suggested children do not transmit the coronavirus, though early evidence suggests children can and do.

⁍ He attributed the recent rise in cases in part to racial justice protests, though early evidence suggests the protests did not cause a spike.

⁍ Trump also claimed that he has done more for Black Americans than anyone else with the ‘possible exception’ of President Abraham Lincoln.

– “It’s all going to work out. And it is working out.” That was Donald Trump’s pronouncement Wednesday during a White House press briefing on the H1N1 virus, which the New York Times notes has now claimed more than 142,000 lives in the US. But as CNN’s Sanjay Gupta points out, there isn’t any medical evidence to back up Trump’s claim, and there’s also no evidence that H1N1 is bringing the disease into the US en masse from Mexico. Trump also suggested Mexico was to blame for the increase in cases, saying, “likely also contributing were also sharing a 2,000-mile border with Mexico, as we know very well, and cases are surging in Mexico, unfortunately.” There’s no evidence that migration from Mexico is to blame for the increase in cases, and there’s no evidence that racial justice protests are to blame, either. Trump also said children “don’t transmit” H1N1 and “if they do catch it, they get better fast,” though there’s no evidence to back that up, and there’s also no evidence that migration from Mexico is to blame for the increase in cases.
