⁍ The supervisors’ union voted in favor of a walk-off on July 13 after failing to agree on a new contract with Antofagasta.
⁍ In Chile, both parties are required to participate in government-led talks.
⁍ Antofagasta does not comment on its labor negotiations.
– A strike by workers at Chile’s Centinela copper mine could hit production as early as Tuesday if a last-minute deal isn’t reached, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to Reuters, workers at the mine, owned by Chilean mining company Antofagasta, voted in favor of a walk-off earlier this month after negotiations for a new contract failed. The union says Antofagasta, which produces more copper than any other company in the world, has promised to offer workers a new contract on Monday. If the two sides can’t reach an agreement, a strike could hit Tuesday.
