– A new report from the World Health Organization and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean warns that Latin America and the Caribbean could be in for a “lost decade” if the H1N1 virus doesn’t get under control, Reuters reports. According to the report, the outbreak of the virus, known as coronavirus, could shrink the region’s economy by 9.1% and increase poverty by 7%. “The Americas are at risk of losing years of health gains in a matter of months,” says the director of the Pan American Health Organization. “This is tragic.”
