⁍ Nick Castellanos belted two homers and the Cincinnati Reds overcame a record-setting performance by Tyler Alexander to post a 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers.


⁍ Alexander struck out nine consecutive batters, setting a major league record by a reliever.


⁍ He also tied the American League and franchise record for any pitcher, set by Doug Fister on Sept. 27, 2012.

Tyler Alexander struck out nine in a row—a Major League Baseball record for a reliever—to end the sixth inning, setting the record for most strikeouts in a game by a reliever, USA Today reports. Alexander also set the MLB record for fewest walks in a game with four. The left-handed Alexander gave up just one hit and one walk in his inning of relief. In the second game of the day, the Reds beat the Tigers 4-3.
