⁍ Countries and international organisations lined up on Wednesday to help Lebanon.
⁍ Below are details of some of the international assistance offered.
– The death toll in Tuesday’s huge blast in a warehouse district of Beirut has hit 100, per the AP, and that number is expected to rise as rescuers continue to comb through the debris. More than 300 were injured, and more than 100 of them are still missing, according to Lebanon’s state-run news agency. The explosion occurred in a southern part of the city near the port. A security official tells the AP the cause of the blast is likely a gas leak in the warehouse. The AP describes the district of southern Beirut as a residential area, and it’s not clear how many people may have been in the warehouse at the time. The AP also has a list of some of the other international help being offered in the wake of the blast. Here’s a look at that, as well as other developments: France is sending 55 security personnel, six tons of health equipment, and 10 emergency doctors. Germany is sending a 47-strong rescue team. Greece is sending a team of 12 personnel, a rescue dog, and two special-purpose vehicles. Iran is sending nine tons of food, medical equipment, and medical personnel. Russia is sending five planes with medical equipment and medical personnel. Turkey is sending a team of 67 people and 40 tons of medical equipment. Qatar is sending two planes with medical aid and medical personnel. Italy is sending two planes with medical equipment and a team of experts. France is sending two planes with medical supplies and a team of security personnel and experts.
