⁍ Serena Williams has been stuck on 23, one behind Margaret Court’s all-time record.
⁍ The American has lost in four Grand Slam finals, including the last two at the U.S. Open.
⁍ Williams is seeded three at the U.S. Open, despite a world ranking of nine.
– Serena Williams could be playing her last US Open if she doesn’t win this year’s tournament, says former champion Mats Wilander. The 23-time Grand Slam champion needs just one more win to tie Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24, reports Reuters. “I think she has to win this one,” says Wilander. “If she doesn’t I would think people, and more specifically she herself, would most probably doubt that she can win another one.” Williams, who turns 39 next month, is seeded three at the tournament, which starts Monday in New York.
