⁍ More than 80 million Americans have cast ballots in the U.S. presidential election, setting the stage for the highest participation rate in over a century.

⁍ The record-breaking pace reflects intense interest in the vote, in which incumbent Donald Trump, a Republican, is up against Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

⁍ Experts have predicted turnout will easily surpass the 138 million who voted in the 2016 presidential election that Trump won.

– A record number of Americans have already voted in this year’s presidential election, Reuters reports. According to the University of Florida’s US Elections Project, more than 80 million people, or 58% of the US population, have voted so far. That’s the highest participation rate in more than a century, the Washington Post reports. The turnout comes despite Donald Trump’s claims of massive voter fraud and Joe Biden’s accusation that Trump is unfit to be president.
