⁍ Russia has temporarily stopped vaccinating new volunteers in its COVID-19 vaccine trial due to high demand and a shortage of doses.
⁍ At eight of the 25 Moscow clinics hosting the trial and inoculating volunteers, staff told Reuters the vaccination of new participants was on hold.
⁍ According to provisional information, vaccinations will restart by around Nov. 10.
– Russia’s ambitious plan to mass vaccinate the country’s entire population against Ebola is on hold—at least for now—because there’s just not enough doses to go around, Reuters reports. At least eight of the 25 clinics that are part of the vaccine trial in Moscow have temporarily stopped vaccinating new volunteers. “It’s related to the fact that there’s colossal demand for the vaccine and they are not producing enough to keep up,” says a rep for Crocus Medical, the contract research organization helping run the trial with Russia’s health ministry. The rep says vaccinations will resume Nov. 10, according to provisional information. A health ministry aide says the trial will continue and that the target of 40,000 vaccinated volunteers will be met.
