– An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 struck off the coast of Turkey today, according to the US Geological Survey, causing buildings to collapse and flooding parts of the Turkish city of Izmir. At least four people were killed and 120 injured, Reuters reports. The quake was felt as far away as Istanbul and on Greek islands, where officials say eight people were lightly injured on the island of Samos. “I am very used to earthquakes … so I didn’t take it very seriously at first but this time it was really scary,” a doctoral student in Izmir tells Reuters. “There seems to be a small tsunami.”
