– South Korea is in mourning for a 22-year-old triathlete who killed herself after teammates accused her of being physically and emotionally abused. Choi Suk-hyeon’s father, Choi Young-hee, tells CNN that text messages sent to her mother, slippers found on her roof, and security footage all point to her suicide last month. He says he was first aware of the abuse when his daughter took a year off from competing in triathlon to recover. He says she told him she was tired and couldn’t continue training with the Gyeongju City Hall Triathlon team. He says he filed a complaint to city hall on Feb. 6, and an investigation was launched after Choi filed a complaint via mail to the Gyeongju Police Office on March 9. The Korean Sports and Olympic Committee says it received a report from Choi on April 8 alleging abuse by coach Kim Kyu-bong and that Daegu District Public Prosecutors’ Office is currently investigating. Kim was banned from the sport for life on Monday. “I’m being investigated by the police, and if it is proven, I’ll act accordingly,” he said at an emergency meeting held by the National Assembly’s sports subcommittee.
