– Muslims have a right to be angry and to “kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past,” but that right should not be used to insult others, according to Malaysia’s former prime minister. Mahathir Mohamad, 95, said in a blog post that while he believes in freedom of expression, it should not be used to insult others, Reuters reports. “Muslims have a right to be angry and to kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past,” he wrote. “But by and large the Muslims have not applied the ‘eye for an eye’ law. Muslims don’t. The French shouldn’t.” Mahathir, a respected leader in the Muslim world, added that “since you have blamed all Muslims and the Muslims’ religion for what was done by one angry person, the Muslims have a right to punish the French.” French President Emmanuel Macron has defended the right to publish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.
