– A Republican lawmaker who has refused to wear a mask during the coronavirus pandemic says he has tested positive for the virus—and he’s going to self-quarantine for 10 days. “Now I need to self-quarantine,” Louie Gohmert of Texas tells KETK. “It’s really ironic, because a lot of people have made a big deal out of my not wearing a mask a lot. But in the last week or two, I have worn a mask more than I have in the whole last four months.” Gohmert was one of several lawmakers to refuse masks during a House Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday in which Attorney General William Barr was questioned about the outbreak of the virus, which has killed at least 150,000 people and sickened more than 4 million in the US, Reuters reports. After Gohmert’s announcement, at least three of his colleagues said they would also self-quarantine. “I’m self-quarantining until I take a test and then again until results are in,” Democratic Rep. Ra ⁇ l Grijalva said in a statement. “In the meantime, my work schedule and the lives of my employees are disrupted. This stems from a selfish act by Mr. Gohmert, who is just one member of Congress.” (Rand Paul became the first US senator to contract the virus in March.)
