⁍ Earlier this week, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said it had begun an investigation into the loan made to AirAsia by Sabah Development Bank Bhd.
– Malaysia’s anti-corruption agency has launched an investigation into a $72 million loan made to AirAsia, the country’s second-largest budget airline, Reuters reports. Anti-corruption officials say they’re looking into the loan made to the Sabah state government by the wholly-owned bank Sabah Development Bank, which is owned by the state government. The loan was for expansion plans, including the construction of a logistics hub in the state’s capital city. But AirAsia says the loan was completed in accordance with laws, policies, and procedures. “All discussions and negotiations with SDB and its officials were all conducted in an appropriate manner, on an arm’s length basis,” the airline said in a stock exchange filing. “Besides their strategic values, the components of these projects also provide solid commercial basis and merits as reflected in the terms and conditions imposed upon AirAsia.”
