– Jrue Holiday has played 11 seasons in the NBA and is a six-time All-Star with the New Orleans Pelicans, but he and his wife, Lauren Holiday—a former member of the US women’s national soccer team—want to do more. That’s why, for the rest of the season, the 30-year-old will donate the rest of his $5.3 million salary to the Jrue and Lauren Holiday Social Justice Impact Fund. “My wife just one night was like, ‘I really feel like you should pledge the rest of your salary,'” Holiday tells ESPN. “Once she said that it was kind of like, ‘Man, woman, you’re a genius.’ Because we want to make an impact.” The fund, which they’re calling a “long-term mission,” will focus on black-owned businesses, nonprofits, and initiatives in Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Indianapolis. The couple says $1 million will be given to Black-owned businesses in 10 US cities, and $500,000 will go to colleges and universities. “With everything going on in this world, it made me and my wife realize that we aren’t invested in our community as we feel we should be,” Holiday says.
