⁍ Florida has reported more coronavirus cases than most countries in the world.
⁍ Laurens’ family was set to go on their annual trip on July 6 to the west coast of Florida, but a week before the reunion Laurens started to feel unwell.
– A woman in Florida has become the latest victim of the deadly coronavirus, which has killed at least two people in the US. Hortencia Laurens, 70, died July 2, days after she was diagnosed with the virus, which has killed at least 3.3 million people worldwide since the pandemic began, CNN reports. Laurens’ family says she began to feel ill a week before her family’s annual trip to Florida’s west coast, and her daughters took her to the hospital July 1, but due to virus precautions, her aunt couldn’t stay with her. The next day, the hospital called the family to tell them Laurens had been diagnosed with the virus. “My grandmother was alone, she was scared,” her grandson, Diego Fereira, tells CNN. Laurens was released from the hospital in the middle of the night with instructions to pick up prescriptions and call her doctor for a follow-up visit, but she didn’t make it that day, Fereira says. She was again diagnosed with the virus July 4 and taken to a different hospital, but she died on her way back to the hospital. “It just goes to show, everybody is afraid,” Fereira tells CNN.
