– Jen Grant’s first board meeting was just 30 days into her new job as CEO of Turbo Systems. “I had barely wrapped my arms around the company and my role, and then there was a pandemic,” she tells Business Insider. “I had created a growth plan but then we had to be more conservative.” But Grant, who left Google in 2008 to join data analytics startup Looker and cloud storage company Box, was able to pull off a $3.45 million fundraising round in just a few months. Turbo Systems provides easy-to-use, no-code software for technical hardware companies. Specifically, it’s designed to help companies that manufacture complex devices like medical imaging equipment to build mobile apps that can be used by their field technicians and repair workers to quickly perform device maintenance. The company was valued at $34 million at the end of last year. Grant, the first-time CEO of Turbo Systems, says her experience working in enterprise software made her qualified to run a startup during an economic downturn. “People need to see more women CEOs because there is a perception that they’re there but you never see them, but for young people coming up in an organization it actually matters to see them,” she says.
