– Vladimir Putin’s wife is the biggest female donor to British political parties in history, and she’s given hundreds of thousands of dollars to members of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party, the Times of London reports. Lubov Chernukhin, the wife of former Russian finance minister Vladimir Chernukhin, donated more than $315,000 to the Conservative Party between 2013 and 2016, including more than $220,000 to Johnson. She’s also given hundreds of thousands of dollars to dozens of British politicians, including at least $2,000 to Theresa Villiers, who sits on Parliament’s Intelligence & Security Committee. The committee published a report this week accusing the British government of failing to protect the country from Russian influence. The report found that Russian figures have used their money to fund British political parties and businesses, with the UK “viewed as a particularly favorable destination for Russian oligarchs and their money,” the Guardian reports. The report found that British government policy has “offered ideal mechanisms by which illicit finance could be recycled through what has been referred to as the London ‘laundromat.'” The report found that there had been “no assessment of Russian interference in the EU referendum and that goes back to nobody wanting to touch this issue with a 10-foot pole.”
