– The number of US deaths from the coronavirus rose to 1,019 on Friday, Reuters reports. That’s up from 1,135 on Thursday, 1,141 on Wednesday, and 1,141 on Tuesday. The total number of cases in the US rose by at least 68,800 on Friday to more than 4 million. “We’re already starting to see some plateauing in these critically four states that have really suffered under the last four weeks, so Texas, California, Arizona, and Florida, those major metros and throughout their counties,” Dr Deborah Birx, a White House adviser on the virus, tells NBC News. Birx says children under 10 are usually less sick than adults from the virus, but says it’s an “open question” how easy it is for them to spread it. Meanwhile, the CDC is urging schools to reopen.
