⁍ Boeing is preparing to delay its all-new 777X jet by several months or up to a year, three people familiar with the matter said.

⁍ The 777X will be the first major jet to be certified since the role of software flaws in two fatal 737 MAX crashes.

⁍ Boeing hopes to bring the jet to market as passenger travel rebounds after a downturn caused by the pandemic.

– Boeing’s much-anticipated 777X passenger jet will likely be delayed for at least a year, three sources tell Reuters. The sources say the delay could come as early as next week when Boeing releases its quarterly earnings. The 777X was originally scheduled to take to the skies in 2021. But the three sources—two of whom say the delay is likely—say Boeing wants to get the jet in the air by 2022-2023. “There are so many widebody aircraft being retired, mothballed,” one source says. “If air travel comes back to 2019 levels, many new planes will be needed.”
