⁍ Britain has been the hardest-hit country in Europe by the pandemic.

– Spain is scrambling to reassure the world that it’s safe to travel to the country after Britain put the country off a “safe-travel” list and quarantined travelers returning from there for two weeks, Reuters reports. “Spain is safe, it is safe for Spaniards, it is safe for tourists,” Spain’s foreign minister told reporters Sunday, adding that the Spanish government will try to convince Britain to exclude the Balearic and Canary islands from the quarantine list. “Spain is safe, it is safe for Spaniards, it is safe for tourists,” she said, adding that the prevalence of the virus in those popular travel destinations is much lower than in the UK. But British tourists aren’t so sure. “It’s a bit crazy considering the restrictions in place in Spain already are really good, with the masks, with disinfecting everything, with hand wash in the shops,” one tells Reuters. “That’s better than what we have in London.” Britain’s foreign secretary has defended the quarantine decision, calling it “realtime response to a jump in infections in Spain” and saying, “We can’t make apologies … we must be able to take swift decisive action.”
